It is so easy to get caught up in our own day to day lives. Sometimes it is nice to take a minute and remember those who are less fortunate. I like to think of myself as a time philanthropist. Like a lot of people, I find that I prefer donating my time to a cause instead of money. A few years ago I was looking for a way to give back, and stumbled on a gold mine. Metro Volunteers. Here’s how it works: you register, they have a schedule of volunteering opportunities, you pick one, you show up. There are no long commitments, you fit it in when you have time in your schedule, they have tons of different opportunities – can it get any better? I also like it because you can spread the love around. Maybe one week you work with sick kids, then the next month you help pack medical supplies for third world countries. I have found that I benefit far more than any of the organizations that I am helping.
And the best part? National Volunteer Week is April 18-241 Get out there and do some good!
