Having a psychic encounter…

March 17th, 2011

Have you ever wondered, “How does it all work?  How does she do it?”  Not in regards to Mary Poppins (although that would be fun to know!), but me, Jennifer Comfort?  Once more, a story…

When I come to your house, I like to talk to you and have you give me a tour of your home.  You may think the tour is only for the purpose of showing me what we are working on, which it is, but it also has a SECRET value.  What?  A secret?  What is this girl talking about?!

My color/design recommendations are based mainly on your personality.  By walking and talking together, I am learning about who you are and what you like.  So I look at what you are showing me, but I also listen to what you are saying – and what you are not saying.

Once the meet and greet is out of the way, I walk back through the rooms and decide what would look best in each – all while channeling my inner “you.”  I imagine the color and design that will make you the happiest and most comfortable in each space.

Then I show you and see what you think.  I pride myself in only being tied to making you insanely happy – if that means working with the orange shag rug you love and the lime green couch you adore – consider them worked in!  Once you are happy with everything, my work is done.

If we are painting, I recommend that you buy wet paint samples and put them on the wall to make sure that you like everything once you see it on a larger scale.  Then we move forward!

So there it is in a nutshell… If I have worked with you in the past, you know all about the “psychic encounter.”  If not, call me so that we can give it a go!

In the Beginning

March 15th, 2011

Once upon a time, there was an artist who wanted to be an artist, but she also wanted to make a living.  What was she to do?

She decided that no matter what medium she worked in, she always LOVELOVELOVED color.  She thought about all the different ways that she could do something with color, and realized that she wanted to help people make their homes beautiful.

She decided to try her hand at color consulting, presenting herself to a paint store where people would naturally seek her out for help with color.  Luckily, Belcaro Paint & Decorating was interested and a partnership began.

The artist worked at Belcaro for two and a half years, meeting and helping all kinds of great people.  In 2005, she left to form her own company.

She can’t believe how incredibly blessed she is to do her job – she gets paid to be excited about each and every day!

I know what you are thinking, is this fantastic story made up?  No my friends, this is MY story.  Thank you so much for making it all possible!

The Exclusivity of Blue

March 12th, 2011

Before we get started, let me just say that I love blue.  It is a great color.

Over the years though, I have noticed that blue is a picky color.  Oh sure, it is the color of the sky, so you think that it will go with everything.  But that is where it gets a little tricky.

Blue has a little bit of a rabbit factor: you bring one piece of blue in, and the next thing you know, your house is filled with blue things.  Because while blue likes other colors, blue REALLY likes itself.

I haven’t noticed this phenomenon with other colors, but for all of you with blue in your homes, do you agree?  Have you noticed the same thing?  I have witnessed it more than a handful of times in the past nine years.  And it is so strange!

Things I LOVELOVELOVE!!!

March 10th, 2011

Do you have anything that you LOVELOVELOVE?  That you would think about running into a burning house to save? (not really run, because your life is more valuable than any thing, but still…)

There are tons of things I LOVELOVELOVE, and I have decided to share some with you – so that you can get a little peek into the tastes of me.  Because when I work with you, it is all about your tastes.

So here are some things that I think are fab – one at a time, once a month.

This month I am sharing one of my very personal LOVELOVELOVE things.  It is a card from a dear friend who said that she thought of me when she saw it.  And if I ever wanted to be described, it would be as this.

Jack Kerouac saying, "the only people for me..."

A New Feature!!! Color of the Month! (this one is for Simon)

March 8th, 2011

A little back story: last week I went to LA for the Design Bloggers Conference.  I had a FABULOUS time, met FABULOUS people, and became re-inspired about my blog.

It was when I was listening to Rhonda Carmen of All the Best Blog.  She was talking about the fact that when she started her blog, she wrote about what she thought was “all the best.”  And then she ran out of things to say.  So she decided to specialize.

At about that point in the chat, the light bulb went off for me: while I enjoy writing about all the things I love, what I LOVELOVELOVE is color.

My blog’s main focus should be color.  Hot, sexy color.  On the plane back to Denver, I thought up over 100 different blog posts that I could do.  Blogger’s block no more!

One of the first things that I want to do is share my favorite hot color – a color of the month if you will.  I have loved this month’s color for many, many months, so it makes sense that I start with it.  And what is it you ask?  Benjamin Moore’s Smoked Oyster 2109-40.  Absolutely fantastic.

sexy and seductive, this purple gray is hot hot hot!

And who is Simon you ask?  Just someone fab that I met who runs this amazing website called Jardins du Jour.  He helped turn my aha moment into reality. xo!
